The BMBF-funded project investigates the influence of external science communication on the citation rate and altmetrics of publications.
Project description
The project describes and quantifies the effect of external science communication on the impact of scientific publications. The influence of external science communication, in particular the dissemination of scientific content via journalistic media (i.e. high-circulation national daily press) and social media (i.e. Twitter, blogs), on the citation rate and altmetrics of publications will be investigated. For this purpose, so-called embargo emails and press releases will be used as a database.
The main focus of the MeWiKo-URZ sub-project is the information technology modelling of influencing variables and the prototypical development of a web-based analysis platform for the exploration of cause-effect relationships. This supports the analysis process through (partial) automation of work steps, e.g. through automatic extraction of topics, authors, etc. In addition, input and output data of the analysis as well as cause-effect relationships are to be presented in a comprehensible way via a visualisation component.
